Presenting Keynote: The Insider's Guide to Creating Great Presentations ReviewAuthor, Erik Holsinger, has extensive media experience and has written over a 100 articles for CNET, MacWeek, PC World, AV Video and Digital Magic. Mr. Holsinger has also written 3 books, The MacWeek Guide to Desktop Video, How Music and Computers Work and How Multimedia Works.
Keynote was developed at Apple Computer for one client, Steve Jobs. Jobs wanted a powerful presentation program that could display still images, play audio and play video for his major presentations at MacWorld keynote speeches. That where the name comes from. The author said that Jobs beta tested Keynote for over a year.
Mr. Holsinger organizes the book into three main sections and is a mix of reading, demonstrations and hands on practice. The three sections are Getting Started, Keynote Presentations For the Real World and Keynote Meets the World. He takes you from a basic an introduction of keynote, to a multi project tutorials ending with information and tips on PowerPoint, presentation equipment and various output methods.
The book ends with several appendixes that cover Keyboard and mouse shortcuts, a catalog of Keynote graphic library and many online resources. While the Keynote software is not included he does provide a CD-Rom containing tutorial files, demo movies and other programs. The only disadvantage I encountered was with the CD-Rom, which ties into your Internet program to access the web, and can be very slow if you have a modem connection. It is very useful if you have DSL or cable modem. In future releases The author should include a demo version of Keynote on the CD or set it up so people with slow connections (modems) will not give up on the CD.
The book is laid out well. The beginner is walked through every element and steps of Keynote while the more experienced can skip around to the areas of interest.Presenting Keynote: The Insider's Guide to Creating Great Presentations Overview"Holsinger's book is very complete and covers more than most of us will probably ever need."--IT-EnquirerWith Apple's Keynote presentation software, anyone can create visually appealing, professional-caliber presentations.
