Managing Understanding in Organizations ReviewIn this book, the authors have done what mgmt/leadership development experts have been asking for ever since the insight started to grow about the role of collective understanding, cultures and communities in management.
In my own work with management teams I often find managers almost unaware or uniterested in the current thoughts of their organisation. This book helps the reader to realise that the obstacles to change and management is what is already 'there' in terms of existing mindsets in the company. Any intervention needs to engage staff more in processes of exploration and reflection from the inside and less to cascade visions, values, scorecard or ready-made solutions from above.
Finally, I greatly appreciated the fact that this book does not simplify things that are not simple to begin with. The solid academic experience of the authors helps them to anchor their arguments in many scientific disciplines. They do this to such a degree that the practitioner reader actually gets to learn about these roots of reasoning and not merely some superficial buzzwords.
A great book I have recommended to all of my colleagues, CEO's and development executives as a must-read.Bo-Magnus Salenius

Managing Understanding in Organizations OverviewBringing a fresh perspective to the evaluation of management problems, this book scrutinizes the influence managers have on employees' understanding. It considers how managers use ideas and visions to frame their employees' internalized understanding of the external rules and instructions that govern their work. The book brings an interpretative perspective to the question of individual and group competence and looks at how this is linked with understanding. The book refers throughout to international case studies and considers the cross-cultural impact on management and understanding at work.
