Microsoft Exchange Server 2007: A Beginner's Guide ReviewI initially picked this book up based on a recommendation from a friend. I had extensive experience with Exchange Server from 5.5 through 2003, but since Exchange 2007 was a whole new revision, I wanted to start as a "beginner." I found however, that this book worked very well not only for beginners, but for someone with a lot of previous Exchange Server experience as well. Learning based on this book was quite easy and it is a quick read. The author obviously has built a career around Exchange Server based on the anecdotes throughout. Expert Access 2007 Programming (Programmer to Programmer) ReviewThis is not the first book on Access to own unless you fairly comfortable with developing applications using another tool. Check out Wrox's Beginning Access 2007 title. But if your goal is to create an application to sell or use within your company this book provides all the info you need to get started and succeed. As a read it I recognized a lot of the tips that I had gathered over years of work and research. Would have been great if I could have just bought this book years ago. Section 4, "Finalizing the Application" covers great material; some knowledge of .Net would be beneficial if you are interested in DLLs (like resource libraries) or the build utility that comes with the book. Next to the Access Developer Handbook series I'd say this is the best book I've read on Access application development and deployment.Expert Access 2007 Programming (Programmer to Programmer) OverviewExpert Access 2007 Programming shows experienced developers how to create professional-level Access database applications. The authors—software engineers on the Access development team at Microsoft—show how to apply software engineering methodologies to Access application development. They also cover such overlooked areas as custom deployment and documentation. The book contains many useful code examples designed so they can be used with minimal modification.

Essential SharePoint 2007: A Practical Guide for Users, Administrators and Developers ReviewI bought this book looking for answers beyond the basic user level and failed to find any. The book is good at giving overviews of features in SharePoint 2007 and the pictures are a plus. However, this book does not go into enought detail on topics a SharePoint site administrator should really know. For example, I can NOT find anything here on how to utilize the Gannt view list for projects. There is also no information on how to create and utilize KPI (Key Performance Indicator) list templates! The book only glosses over the definition and does not go into further detail. At the sametime, it goes into detail about including images and flash animations by adding HTML codes; something meant for very advanced users. There is no user level consistency in this book which is truly disappointing. I have found more answers by experimenting on SharePoint myself than through this book. If you've used the Essential Skills book to learn how to do day-to-day stuff in Excel 2007 like a professional, the feel of the Expert book will be very familiar to you. Everything I liked about the first book has been carried into this book: from the intuitive layout of the lessons to the well thought-out sample problem files. Of course the content is different, and this book does a great job of walking readers through the maze of advanced features found in Excel. In fact, the book taught me some formulas and methods that are difficult to find any other places (I looked).
However, this book is not an encyclopedia of each and every feature in Excel, but I wouldn't really want to pay for a book like that anyway ... that's what Excel Help (F1) is for, which is free! This book is much more useful than that. Rather this book is a collection of tutorials and sample spreadsheets that build upon each other so that when you got to the end, you know how to do everything because you've done it yourself in Excel.
I should also mention here that I'm an Excel instructor, and though I knew how to do much of the stuff in here before I started, I still love this book. What's more, my students have purchased this book and they they really like it too. To me, that's the best sign of a great tutorial book: one that both instructors and students choose to use and re-use and re-use again.
