There are a few thing Jay Rose added to this book that were not in the first edition. This book and also Rose's "Producting Great Sound for Digital Video" are well organized, clearly written and have greatly helped my understanding of how to deal with sound both in production and post. He goes into much detail regarding postproduction manipulation of sound. RED: The Ultimate Guide to Using the Revolutionary Camera ReviewWhen I ordered this book, I was really hoping for "the ULTIMATE" guide to the Red camera system. You know, something that would explain some of it's quirks or how to get the best out of it under varied lighting conditions or even some discussion into the technical aspects of the camera beyond where in the menus you can find the settings for Zebra Stripes. While Noah Kadner is obviously an expert with the camera and its support systems, he provides very little insight for working professionals. Even the First Person POVs at the end of the chapters are little more than anecdotes about working with the Red camera system.
On the other hand, if this is your first time working with advanced video acquisition systems and specifically the Red, then this book is definitely for you. The book does presume you have the most basic of technical proficiency with digital cinematography; mostly to understand its terms, but even that is dealt with by providing a simple glossary in the back. I feel the strength of this book is to provide a quick "up and running" guide to working with the Red camera and its peripherals. It also competently explains the integration of those support systems to provide a comprehensive review for the choices we face in post-production when you acquire your footage with the Red camera.

His interpretations and the posturing of OEE with factory output demonstrates the importance of reliability to the corporate bottom line. Many companies continuously ignore the importance of unlocking the hidden factory and don't realize the waste generated by ignoring OEE concepts. Mr. Hansen, in 274 pages, gives a complete and compact version that any corporate manager, by being proactive and a visionary, can utilize to change costs into profits. Reliability and OEE technologies appear to be fairly new to much of the industrial world. Mr. Hansen decribes in his book a cultural change, that if followed,will help produce a payback welcomed by any corporate institution. His writing is easy to understand by both new and old Reliability/OEE practitioners. He has written in an orderly fashion with each chapter building on, and complementing the previous. The book describes in a step by step fashion the concept of true OEE, which when practiced will unlock the hidden factory. Pro Tools for Film and Video ReviewI feel cheated. I wanted a step by step guide to Pro Tools for film and video applications. This book is not it. Too much time is spent describing a student film project Angell was involved in. The rest of the book (it's not very long) gives a glossy overview of Pro Tools and other Digidesign products. The auther never gives us the detail we need. All the more diappointing as other books from Focal press are excellent. I have since bought the 101 guide on Pro Tools and this does tell me how to use Pro Tools.Pro Tools for Film and Video Overview
