Using AutoCAD 2011 ReviewPurchased this book as a text for a night class on CAD. This one is so well written and laid out that you could teach yourself without an instructor. It's that good. Since the class, I have taught myself even more just using this text. There are a lot of books on CAD out there. This one is the best. Money well spent!Using AutoCAD 2011 OverviewThoroughly updated to AutoCAD 2011 this easy-to-understand essentials edition covers all aspects of AutoCAD fundamentals, from an introduction to computer hardware and AutoCAD software to learning to draw with objects, direct editing of objects, and plotting. AutoCAD 14: No Experience Required ReviewThis reference is easy to follow for architectual drafting. If you are drawing simple box type structures this is the book for you. If you need a mechanical drafting Autocad learning reference dont buy this book. You will be disappointed. For example 12 pages are devoted to "laying out the kitchen". I suggest the author and the publisher do two things; 1) change the title of the reviewed book to Architectual-Autocad 14 and 2) write another book titled Mechanical-Autocad 14.AutoCAD 14: No Experience Required OverviewAutoCAD 14: No Experience Required is an introduction to the basic features and commands of AutoCAD as they are used in computer-aided architectural drafting. The essential fourteen skills are presented as an on-going tutorial in which the reader is guided through the steps necessary to create a floor plan, elevations, and other drawings that illustrate a small cabin. As you move from skill to skill, you develop this set of drawings and learn, eventually, how to dimension, place text in a drawing, link external references and print from Paper Space. An introduction to the concepts and techniques for drawing in 3D is presented in the appendix.

AutoCAD 2009 & AutoCAD LT 2009 All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies ReviewWhen I got this book I thought WOW this is huge! It is heavy, it has 760 pages and covers everything from A to Z about AutoCAD. It definitely is an All-In-One Reference on this unbelievable software program. And, there are 10 books in this book. There are chapters that explain AutoCAD Basics, 2D Drafting, Annotating Drawings, LT (Light) Differences, 3D Modeling, Advanced Drafting, Publishing Your Drawings, Collaboration (sharing with others and building on the original within groups), How You Can Customize AutoCAD For You, and more.
Of course, they have the Icons throughout the book as they have in all their publications that make it easier to find what you need by scanning down the margins.
What I really like, since I interface with others that don't have AutoCAD, is being able to work within the DWF files and send to my friends with Adobe Illustrator that can use these drawings in their computers. (WIsh they had a MacIntosh version of this program but that is asking for the moon, I guess. I use this with Parallels so it works on my Mac just fine. I find more and more cities are moving to Macs so this might change given time.

AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD LT 2010: No Experience Required ReviewI received a copy of "AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD LT 2010 NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED" on a Saturday and sat down with it and a free trial version of AutoCAD 2011 (a full working version and can be downloaded from Autodesk and used for 30 days) on Sunday. After my first day, I am now in Chapter 6 - Using Layers to Organize Your Drawing. This is an excellent book! The instructions are very clear and the pace of the book is just right. The author does not assume that you know anything about AutoCAD (the title is accurately named "NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED"). As I moved through each exercise I gained confidence and was able to draw faster as I mastered a new command. The book teaches you most of the features of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT by using a continuing project, a small cabin. You will learn to build a set of drawings that document your progress throughout the project. Chapter 1 begins with `Getting to Know AutoCAD' while the last chapter, Chapter 17, finishes with `Rendering and Materials'. I am very pleased with my purchase by this author. I plan to purchase Mastering AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD LT 2010 by George Omura after I finish Jon McFarland's book.AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD LT 2010: No Experience Required OverviewCompletely updated on the latest releases of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, this book provides you with the skills needed to work in AutoCAD immediately and a step-by-step tutorial teaches you all the basics so you can quickly achieve results when creating 2D and 3D technical drawings. You'll look at dimensioning, external references, layouts and printing, and using 3D and move on to examining more advanced features such as grouping, elevations, hatches, and using text in drawings. The companion Web site contains project files, a bonus chapter on using the Internet with AutoCAD, an appendix on attributes, and another appendix on dynamic blocks.

AutoCAD 2010 For Dummies ReviewExcellent reference for those who have little knowledge of Auto Cad and want to learn it quickly. Step by step instructions as well as short cuts once you have mastered basics. Unlike many of the Auto Cad teachers I have encountered, the book does not pretend that learning Auto Cad is the functional equivalent of earning a Master's Degree in Computer Science. This book demystifies Auto Cad, and focuses on making you productive. You can ponder the cross pollenating connectedness of computer software operations on your own.AutoCAD 2010 For Dummies OverviewAutoCAD is the hot computer-aided design software known for both its powerful tools and its complexity. AutoCAD 2010 for Dummies is the bestselling guide that walks you through this complicated program so you can build complex 3D technical drawings, edit like a pro, enter new dimensions, and plot with style.
AutoCAD 2010 for Dummies helps you navigate the program, use the AutoCAD Design Center, create a basic layout and work with dimension, and put your drawings on the Internet. You'll soon be setting up the AutoCAD environment, using the AutoCAD Ribbon, creating annotation and dimension drawings, exploring 3D models, and cruising comfortably through AutoCAD 2010.
Understand object selection and learn all about commanding and selecting, one-by-one selection, and perfecting selecting
Use the AutoCAD tool kit and learn to copy between drawings, manipulate images, and polish your properties
Turn on your annotative objects and say more in multiline text
Understand the anatomy of a dimension, then draw and edit your own
Get up to speed on how to create block definitions, insert blocks, and more
Discover techniques for setting up a layout in paper space
Push the boundary of hatch and define hatch objects
Learn to design in Web format and draw on the Internet

With AutoCAD, the only limits are your imagination. AutoCAD 2010 for Dummies prepares you to use this powerful software to design and document your ideas in 2D and 3D.

AutoCAD 2009 and AutoCAD LT 2009: No Experience Required ReviewIs there anything McFarland has left out about AutoCad 2009? Apparently not, at least for the newbie. As the cover prominently says, no experience needed. The book comprehensively covers what the novice might want. Explaining in detailed steps such basics as setting up a drawing, laying out walls of a building, and the use of layers. The latter is significant. For layering lets you decompose your design process into manageable parts. If you have perhaps used Adobe's Photoshop and its layering, then the idea transfers over readily.
The chapters also end in suggestions for exercises, so that you can integrate each chapter's lessons into your understanding. The exercises are not that extensive, so you may have to push yourself into devising more problems if you feel the need.
I should add that the text applies AutoCad to the designing of a building. Other important usages include designing consumer products. But the book stays on topic with architecture.
By the way, for non-US readers, the examples in the book all use imperial measurements. But you can trivially change the Autocad settings to use metric.AutoCAD 2009 and AutoCAD LT 2009: No Experience Required OverviewAutoCAD 2009 and AutoCAD LT 2009: No Experience Required is the perfect step-by-step introduction to the very latest version of the world's leading CAD software. It provides concise explanations and practical tutorials that clearly show you how to plan and develop a customized AutoCAD project. Follow the tutorials sequentially or just jump in at any chapter by downloading the drawing files from the companion website. Either way, you'll master AutoCAD features, get a thorough grounding in the essentials, and see quick results.
