Successful Executive's Handbook ReviewI purchased this book after receiving 360 degree feedback from employees, peers and my vice president. This volume provides practical actions for improving on the competencies identified in the assessment. I am currently using it to build a development action plan for 2009, as well as for the next few years as I work toward achieving my next career milestone of moving from middle management to the executive floor. while the book is described as providing development suggestions for TODAY's executives, I believe that you have to be exhibiting these behaviors before you are ready for that big promotion.Successful Executive's Handbook Overview

Coaching that Counts: Harnessing the Power of Leadership Coaching to Deliver Strategic Value (Improving Human Performance) Review"Coaching That Counts" is a must read, particularly for the experienced executive coach and/or the corporate executive managing large scale coaching and leadership development programs.
Many fine books have been written separately on the topics of executive coaching and organizational development and learning. What sets "Coaching That Counts" apart is how it expertly combines the two topics seamlessly in a clear, readable and immediately useful format.
The husband-wife team of Diana and Merrill Anderson share generously their 30 plus years of combined expertise and insights in their roles as executive coach, corporate leader and organizational researcher.
The authors are pioneers in their respective fields. Diana is a superb and gifted executive and leadership coach and one of the first Master Certified Coaches with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Merrill has contributed foundational and pivotal research-models for measuring return on investment (ROI) impact for training and coaching initiatives.
The book is divided into two parts. The first half describes in detail a comprehensive and provocative coaching model, called "Leading With Insight". The model describes 4 coaching quadrants: Reflective, Emotional, Intuitive and Inspirational. Each key coaching quadrant is expertly described first conceptually and then through case study presentations.
The second half of the book details very useful quantitative and qualitative ROI approaches for measuring coaching impact. Additionally excellent chapters are also included focusing on key steps, considerations and insights for conceptualizing, initiating and measuring large scale organizational change-coaching programs.
Of particular interest in the Leading with Insight model is the authors' observation that most current coaching work focuses on the first 2 quadrants, which asks the questions, What do I need to do now? and What am I made of? The authors explain that most ROI impact however occurs in Quadrant III and IV, which focuses on Organizational Alignment and Original Action.They share that less than 50% of coaching relationships currently evolve beyond Quadrant II, but that 70% of return on investment derives from gains in Quadrant III and IV. This has enormous implications for future executive coaching focus and pay-off.
In summary, this book is a call to action, challenging the reader to work deeper within themselves and with their clients to achieve broader, more impactful coaching outcomes and execute more accurate and measurable Coaching ROI analysis.

Organization Theory and Design ReviewI would like to say that the content of this book is good. It contains updated information that is applicable to today's economy and world. I have very much been enjoying reading this textbook on my Kindle device, but...
The remainder of this review will not be on the content of the book, but the ordeal I had when I bought the e-book edition. You'll notice that this book is no longer offered for the Kindle device. When I bought this text a couple of weeks ago, it was offered as a Kindle edition for about $30 cheaper. I figured it was worth it because I often like to refer back to my textbooks for new classes. I got through 2 Chapters of this book on my Kindle when I realized that one of the Workbook assignments I had to do was not on the device at all. So I thought, "Maybe it will show up on Kindle for PC." Nope, not there, but a note about information missing due to copyright issues was in its place. Seriously? Probably nobody is reading this book just for the heck of it, most people are reading it for serious schoolwork and all of the information-especially cases for analysis and workbook activities need to be available. Chapter 2 wasn't the only chapter with information missing. I found about 4 other chapters with missing activities and cases, and these were just the chapters that I needed info from, there could have been more with missing info.
Anyway, Amazon was fantastic when I contacted them. And they gave me my money back after I purchased the hardcopy of the book. They said it was something to do with the publisher. And of course, I contacted the publisher just to make sure they knew of the issue. The publishing company was rude and said they had absolutely nothing to do with the problem.
I would very much like to read textbooks for classes on my Kindle and I was hoping this one would be the beginning of not having to lug heavy hardcopies to work, the coffee shop, on airplanes, etc., but I guess not.
