The Black Ship ReviewThis is definitely one of the best books I've read on the left hand path (and I've read many). Unlike most books in this genre, the author provides a congruent paradigm in which the practices relate.
As the author says in his introduction, this book is really aimed at practitioners with experience, but having said that; I would recommend it to anyone starting out in the left hand path - I wish it had been available to me 20 years ago.
The beauty of the book is that is not dogmatic, nor does it give many 'cut and dried' rituals. This is left to the inventiveness of the practitioner. What it does do however is give a excellent paradigm in which to advance through the dark path. Some parts of the practice don't appeal to me personally (the veneration of ancestors for example) but the author does give solid reasons for their inclusion, and, like so much of the rest of the material could easily be adapted.
Some of the authors ideas are quite 'out there' but no less excellent for all that.
Overall well worth a five star rating. This is a serious book for serious practitioners and not for the casual dabbler; but then to be fair, a dabbler wouldn't be able to use this book since it focuses so much on inner introspection and self knowledge. The Black Ship OverviewPart grimoire and part manifesto, The Black Ship presents the vision of the Pandemonium Mandala, teaches the lore of the emergent Daemonic race and is the blueprint for a culture based on Left-Hand Path principles. It begins with such basics as the invocation of the personal Daemon and new ways of consecrating working tools and personal space before exploring work with Ancestral spirits, the Mysteries of the Lesser and Greater Sabbats, the Sacrament of the Royal Blood of Chaos and the techniques of Transmogrification. It then explores the Daemonic rationale underlying new conceptions of politics, law and the evolutionary implications of space migration. Finally, The Black Ship concludes with a Chaosmological vision of this universe that both relates to and differs from ancient Gnostic teachings, with some new elements that may surprise.

The Divine Arcana of the Aurum Solis: Using Tarot Talismans for Ritual & Initiation ReviewIf you're interested in the Aurum Solis tradition PLEASE avoid this lamentable volume and instead pick up the newly issued Planetary Magick by Denning and Philips. That book has some flaws but it provides a genuine workable system for magical practice.
This piece of rubbish from JLB does nothing of the kind. The deplorable quality of the writing and the plethora of inexcusable typographical mistakes correlate very highly to the baseless and illogical "ideas" presented in this endeavor. Vivian Godfrey must be spinning in her grave.
As an initiated anr practising Ogdoatic adept, initiated into the Aurum Solis before the excommunication of the USA houses and subsequently into a contacted successor order, I can state from experience that this hodge-podge presented by JLB has no workable basis, and the only possible reason I can discern for his attempting to rewrite the entirely workable and practical system presented over decades by Denning & Philips is to piggyback on their work in an attempt to sell books.
I have discussed this in depth with several friends within the Ogdoatic tradition and the only people in favor of JL's efforts are the people who don't actually do any of the work and just sit around arguing about the theory. The actual practitioners are unanimous in stating that this book stinks on every level. The Divine Arcana of the Aurum Solis: Using Tarot Talismans for Ritual & Initiation Overview
