Pipeline Geomatics: Practice & Innovation (Pipeline Engineering Monograph) ReviewWhen I saw this title, I was really intrigued. As someone in the pipeline industry, I thought that there would be a wealth of knowledge in a technical book like this that I could leverage. This turned out not to be the case. Wikipedia describes Geomatics as land surveying, remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and COMPASS), photogrammetry, and related forms of earth mapping. While mentioning some of these disciplines, this book is almost exclusively about GIS applications. Worse, it describes how GIS can help with all the phases of pipeline design, construction and operations without giving any information on how any of this is accomplished. THERE IS NO TECHNICIAL KNOWLEDGE IN THIS BOOK. At a minimum, I would have expected something about workflows or data validation but it simply describes how wonderful GIS is.
