Observing Spirit ReviewHaving searched through and struggled with Western and Eastern religions, as well as current teachers such as Eckhart Tolle, it seems all (especially Christian mystic Meister Eckhart and Von Durcheim, American teacher Vernon Howard, Hindu Vedanta teachers like Ramana Marharshi, and Gnostic/Eastern Orthodox authors like Yves Le-Loup,point to the state of Witnessing as a core practice toward enlightenment. Peter Rhodes makes that state accessible and welcoming with his brilliant book "Observing Spirit." He provides a path from the lower lelf to the Higher Self (Atman, Christ Self, Holy Spirit, whatever name It is called by), from personality to Essence, through his thorough and enlightening teachings on Gurdijeff (as well as Maurice Nicol)and his study and experience of the expansive work of Emanuel Swedenborg. For those of us who feel yearning for True Christianity as related to us by Swedenborg, this combination of Swedenborg's teachings on spirituality and "The Work" practice of Witnessing clears up so much confusion and brings the core of both works to light. In a gentle, caring manner Peter Rhodes words sink past our resistence to the Truth. His writing style and obvious commitment to Truth causes all the treasures in this book to be easily accessible. This is brilliant book of Light for those of us who have been lost in the darkness of our own lower self. It leads us to the Light. For me, it brings a clarity to all the discordant notes on the surface of so many teachings and touches the "core" within them all. It is brilliant synthesis of the Truth found in Swedenborg and Gurdijeff. Thank you Mr. Rhodes for offering this "gift to the world."Observing Spirit Overview
Based on the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff, P.D. Ouspensky, MauriceNicoll, and Emanuel Swedenborg, Peter Rhodes presents a practical guideto spiritual progress. Stressing personal responsibility for overcomingnegative traits, each chapter explains how we can realize our truespiritual potential by cultivating awareness of our baser reactions andby applying the tools of Gurdjieff's spiritual method, "The Work," toour everyday existence.

Rhodes joins "The Work" with the spiritualphilosophy of Emanuel Swedenborg to enhance our understanding of how theworld of spirit intersects our lives on the earthly level. At theconclusion of each chapter, tools for measuring the reader's progressare provided in the form of weekly tasks and meditations. This book canbe used in group workshops or by the individual.

Access Forms & Reports For Dummies ReviewFirst, it is important to realize what this book is not. It is not a complete Access reference book. It will not teach you database theory and all aspects of data normalization. It does not cover advanced techniques such as VBA programming, the ADO object model or using the Windows API.
So what do you get from this book? A fantastic introduction to developing forms, reports and queries. In the tradition of the Dummies series, the author gently guides the novice towards building expertise in this narrow but all important aspect of Microsoft Access. With a conversational style, each step in creating a report, form or query is clearly explained. Also, the reasons for creating a report or form, and the differences between the two are presented. Although the title doesn't mention queries, because they are integral to producing reports and forms, several chapters deal with queries. Finally, two chapters discuss enhancing queries with SQL and troubleshooting those queries when things go wrong.
In summary, by spending a few days with the author, via this book, a beginning Access programmer can quickly become adept at designing forms and generating reports.Access Forms & Reports For Dummies OverviewCreate queries that make forms and reports usefulDevelop forms to access the data you need and make reports that make sense! If you thought you had to use a spreadsheet program to produce reports and forms, guess what! Excel 2003 Bible ReviewI usually avoid books about Microsoft software because I can usually muddle through and figure out what I want to do. If in doubt, I seek out a twelve-year-old who knows the answers. But this week I had a desire to create a unique chart for a client, and decided to see if Excel would help me make the chart. I had the good fortune to run across Excel 2003 Bible at the library, and took it home to skim. Within 45 minutes I had all the answers to my questions, and found a way to create a better chart than I had originally planned to make. That was well worth my time. I'm sure that I would never have found the alternatives on my own that the book pointed me to.
Intrigued by the help I got, I went back and read the simple sections as well. I was impressed by how thorough all of the material is. You are given many different ways to accomplish the same task, along with the pros and cons of why to go one way versus another. I also appreciated the many graphics in the book to show what the screens look like.
The book is also backed up with a CD to run simulations and a web site where you can get more help.
If you think you may ever want to do advanced applications of Excel, I strongly encourage you to read this book. I particularly liked the charting and analysis sections.
As I finished this book, I realized that I usually employ Excel to get tasks done faster . . . and hadn't given much thought to how to complete them better. I suspect that much data could be made more usable and valuable for me and others if I think about how to employ all of Excel's tools in advance.Excel 2003 Bible Overview
