M-Learning: Mobile E-Learning ReviewDavid Metcalf offers a concise and easy-to-follow overview of the possibilities offered to individuals and corporations by mobile learning, or 'mLearning'. His review of mlearning training strategies in Sales, Services and Management areas adequately grounds his discussion in real life examples. At times these examples need to be linked more explicity to concepts of learning, and it is here that the text has an absence. A discussion of learning principles (either from a cognitive or epistemological standpoint) would add depth an rigor to his arguments. However, it must be acknowledged that the focus of this text is "...to survey, from a corporate perspective, the landscape of how mLearning is being utilized and what lies ahead." (154) In this respect, the text is generally successful. However, for more detailed and practical discussions of design principles, multimedia integration and mobile learning futures, perhaps look elsewhere.M-Learning: Mobile E-Learning Overview

I found this book very useful to aid in my lecturing.Dialogic Inquiry: Towards a Socio-cultural Practice and Theory of Education (Learning in Doing: Social, Cognitive and Computational Perspectives) OverviewFor more than a quarter century, the polemics surrounding educational reform have centered on two points of view: those that favor a "progressive" child-centered form of education, and those that would prefer a return to a more structured, teacher-directed curriculum that emphasizes basic knowledge and skills. Vygotsky's social constructivist theory offers an alternative solution, placing stress on coconstruction of knowledge by more and less mature participants engaging in joint activity. This theory offers semiotic mediation as the primary means of obtaining knowledge, whereby the less mature participants can seek solutions to everyday problems by using resources existing in society. Apprenticeship in Literacy ReviewIf you liked Guided Reading by Fountas and Pinnell, you'll REALLY enjoy this book. This easy-to-read text will guide K-3 teachers as they develop a reading and writing program for all their students. An apprenticeship approach to literacy emphasizes the role of the teacher in providing demonstrations, engaging children, monitoring their understanding, providing timely support and, ultimately, withdrawing that support as the child gains independence.
Drawing on authentic classroom examples—student writing samples, class schedules, photographs, and rich transcriptions of teaching and learning interactions—the authors illustrate instruction that is aimed at children's learning zones. As children become more competent readers and writers, the instructional interactions are adjusted to accommodate their higher-level learning.

Here is a wealth of in-depth information, specific strategies, and organizational formats in literacy areas such as:principles of apprenticeship literacy;learning to read from a cognitive apprenticeship approach, including the roles of read-aloud, familiar reading, and shared reading;

No detail is lost. The authors also cover such practical matters as establishing routines and organizing the classroom environment, including rotation schedules for meeting with small groups of children, lists of materials for establishing literacy corners, and literacy corner activities designed to provide the children with opportunities for independent practice.
